reading, being happy, good summer songs, wine, clean underwear, popcorn, hugging, boys with pretty eyes, painting my fingernails, long t-shirts, saying goodnight, deep voices, driving, pretty feet, someone else’s smell left on my bedsheets, snuggling, punctuation, bottled water, meaning “I love you”, truces with my sisters, warm blankets in frigid rooms, childhood TV shows, and learning new things about myself.
the world has taught her to be that way. For too long, she has placed her hopes and desires into entities the universe cannot feel justified in bequeathing her. Repeated neglect and heartache have taught her to never want anything for too long. To never make herself vulnerable.
